An atmospheric front will sweep across part of Ukraine: Which regions will see heavy rain?

The weather on September 1 in Ukraine will be varied: the western regions and parts of the northern and central regions will be affected by an atmospheric front bringing brief showers and thunderstorms, while dry weather will persist in the south and east. This was reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
On Tuesday, September 1, variable cloud cover is expected across Ukraine. In the western and northern regions, as well as in Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions during the day, there will be brief showers, accompanied by thunderstorms in some places.
No significant precipitation is forecast for the rest of the country.
Where will rain and thunderstorms occur on September 1?
Forecasters predict unstable weather primarily in the western regions.
Short-lived showers and localized thunderstorms are possible in:
- Lviv;
- Volyn;
- Rivne;
- Ternopil;
- Khmelnytskyi;
- Ivano-Frankivsk;
- Chernivtsi;
- Transcarpathian regions.
Precipitation is also expected in parts of the northern regions. During the day, rain clouds may reach the Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions.
According to a warning from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, thunderstorms are possible in the western regions, as well as in the Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr regions during the day. A yellow alert (first level of danger) has been issued.
During thunderstorms, localized gusts of wind, reduced visibility on roads, and short-term heavy precipitation are possible.
Where It Will Stay Dry
No significant precipitation is forecast for most of the southern, eastern, and southeastern regions on September 1.
Dry weather is expected in:
- Odesa;
- Mykolaiv;
- Kherson;
- Zaporizhzhia;
- Dnipropetrovsk;
- Donetsk;
- Luhansk;
- most of the Kharkiv region.
These regions will experience variable cloud cover with prolonged periods of sunshine.
At the same time, the lack of rain combined with high temperatures creates conditions conducive to the rapid outbreak and spread of fires in natural ecosystems.
Air temperature on September 1
At night, temperatures in most regions will range from 13° to 18°. It will be slightly cooler in the east—from 9° to 14°.
During the day, temperatures will rise to 23… 28°.
Estimated temperatures by region:
- west — 21…26°;
- north—23…27°;
- central region — 24–28°;
- south — 25…28°;
- East — 23… 27°.
The wind will be predominantly southwesterly, with speeds of 7–12 m/s.
Thus, the calendar fall will begin with warm weather—almost summer-like in some regions. At the same time, temperatures will gradually drop after the passage of an atmospheric front.
What will the weather be like in Kyiv?
Variable cloudiness is forecast for Kyiv on September 1.
No significant precipitation is expected at night, but brief showers are possible during the day. In the Kyiv region, showers are expected in some areas, occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms.
Temperatures will be:
- in Kyiv at night — 16…18°;
- during the day — 26…28°;
- in the Kyiv region at night — 13…18°;
- during the day — 23…28°.
The wind will be from the southwest, 7–12 m/s.
Due to possible precipitation and stronger winds, Kyiv residents should bring umbrellas, especially in the afternoon.

Where a state of extreme fire danger has been declared
From September 1 to 3, an extreme (Class 5) fire danger is expected in many regions of Ukraine.
According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the warning applies to:
- the northern regions;
- most central regions;
- most southern regions;
- Khmelnytskyi Oblast;
- Kharkiv Oblast.
The exceptions are Vinnytsia and Odesa regions. In Kirovohrad region, the warning may not be in effect on September 1, but the danger will increase over the next few days.
What will the weather be like on September 2?
According to the preliminary forecast from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, there will be no significant precipitation in most regions on September 2.
Light rain at night is possible only in the northern regions.
Temperatures will drop:
- at night — to 9…16°;
- during the day—to 20–26°;
- in the south and southeast—up to 30° in some places.
The southwesterly wind will gradually shift to a northwesterly wind. It will bring cooler air after the warm start to September.
What to Expect in September
September is a transitional month between summer and fall. It is characterized by a gradual drop in temperature and fewer thunderstorms.
According to the monthly forecast from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the average temperature in September is expected to be:
- 13… 17° in most regions;
- 18… 20° in the south;
- 9… 15° in mountainous areas.
Monthly precipitation is forecast to be within the seasonal norm. At the same time, certain periods in September may remain summer-like in warmth.
