The Finance Committee of the Rada supported Dubinsky’s dismissal from the executive position

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance and Tax Policy has recommended dismissing MP Oleksandr Dubinsky from the post of deputy chairman and member of the committee. This was announced by Deputy Chairman of the Committee, MP from the Voice party Yaroslav Zheleznyak, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The decision was voted for by 16 members of the committee. The final decision is to be made at the plenary session of the Rada on August 19-21.
Dubinsky is a former journalist and MP against whom the United States imposed sanctions in 2021 for election interference. He was subsequently expelled from the Servant of the People faction and stripped of his leadership positions in the party.
Since 2023, Dubinsky has been under investigation: he is charged with illegal travel abroad, corruption offenses, and high treason. In November 2023, the court took him into custody, and he is currently being held in a pre-trial detention center until at least October 3, 2025.
What is known about the case of Oleksandr Dubinsky
Suspicion of treason
- In November 2023, Dubinsky was notified of suspicion of high treason and participation in a criminal organization created by the GRU, the Russian military intelligence service. Within this organization, he had the call sign “Pinocchio” and allegedly acted to discredit Ukraine in the international arena, especially in relations with the United States, in order to prevent the country from joining the EU and NATO.
- According to the SBI, this special operation was funded by Russia (over $10 million) and had a clear hierarchical structure.
Other criminal proceedings
- The investigation found that Dubinsky illegally organized a trip abroad under the guise of accompanying his sick father, but went on vacation to Italy or Spain.
- He is also suspected of facilitating the illegal transportation of persons across the border (Part 2 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). His accomplice was also served with sanctions; the case has been referred to court.
Progress of the investigation
- The SBI has completed the pre-trial investigation in the case of Dubinsky and his accomplices – the materials have been handed over to the defense, after which the case will be sent to court.
- In June 2024, SBI official Oleksandr Udovychenko stated that the case was at its final stage. At the same time, he emphasized that the motive was not political persecution, but real actions that threatened national security.
Pre-trial restraint
- In November 2023, the court imposed a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention; Dubinsky is currently in pre-trial detention until October 3, 2025.
Possible consequences
- For high treason, Dubinsky faces up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property
