Ukrainian businesses continue to demonstrate resilience despite regular enemy attacks. Entrepreneur Yevgen, who opened his own café in Podil, has become yet another symbol of this resilience. Yesterday, May 23, the establishment celebrated its official opening, but the very next morning, the owners had to clean up the aftermath of Russian shelling, writes "Komersant Ukrainian".
The “Hogo” café is located at 6 Spaska Street. To fulfill his dream and launch a business in the historic part of the capital, the owner, Kyiv resident Yevgen, took a bold step—he sold his own property to invest all his funds into the new venture.
However, on the very first night after the official opening, the area came under enemy attack. The blast wave damaged buildings in Podil, completely shattering the windows and destroying the entrance area of the newly opened café.

The nearby National Museum “Chernobyl” also sustained serious damage from the same blast wave.
Yaroslav Yemelianenko, head of the Association of Chernobyl Tour Operators, promptly reported the damage to the historic building and cultural institution. According to him, the museum’s unique windows were shattered, and the interior and facades were damaged.
Experts are currently assessing the extent of the damage to the exhibits and the impact on cultural heritage.
Coffee Through Broken Windows and Family Support
Despite the shock and the extensive material damage all around, the café near the museum did not stop operating.
Just an hour after landing, Yevgen was at his workplace. Together with his mother, who immediately came to support her son in this difficult moment, they got to work right amid the shards of glass.

For the first 24 hours since its opening, “Hogo” has been operating in an unusual format for a business—
Yevgen is serving coffee to Kyiv residents directly through the café’s broken windows.
