China Will Not Allow Russia to Use Nuclear Weapons — Stubb

Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that China is a “fairly strong deterrent” against Russia’s escalation in the war against Ukraine and that Beijing will prevent Moscow from using nuclear weapons. Stubb made these remarks in a conversation with German journalist Paul Ronzheimer, according to Politico, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
Alexander Stubb noted that Finland had received “private assurances” from China itself that it would prevent Russia from using nuclear weapons. According to Stubb, he received these assurances from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who visited Finland this summer.
The meeting between Wang Yi and Alexander Stubb took place in Helsinki on July 5.
The Finnish president also expressed the view that it is in Moscow’s interest to keep Europeans in a state of anxiety and uncertainty regarding the possibility of nuclear escalation or a direct attack on NATO.
“Russia wants us Europeans to sit here and debate: Will Russia escalate? Will Russia use nuclear weapons? Will Russia attack NATO and Europe?” said Alexander Stubb.
He himself advised his European colleagues to “remain calm and vigilant” and to “prepare for the worst-case scenario in order to avoid it.”
Also, in a conversation with Paul Ronzheimer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that he does not believe Russia will attack NATO countries. In his view, mobilization remains the only possible path to escalation for Russia.
On August 26, Bloomberg reported that there are currently no signs that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine, and noted that even its key partners, such as China and India, have warned Moscow against taking such a step.
