Shakhtar Donetsk narrowly lost to Arsenal London in the 3rd round of the 2024/25 Champions League general stage, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
In the third round of the Champions League, London Arsenal hosted Shakhtar Donetsk at home.
In the 29th minute, Martinelli broke through on the flank, hit the post, and the ball ricocheted off the Ukrainian goalkeeper and into the net.
In the second half, Shakhtar managed to ease the opposition’s pressure and launch a series of attacks, but Arsenal’s defence was confident, blocking most of the shots.
In the 74th minute, Valeriy Bondar made a sloppy handball in his own penalty area and won a penalty. Fortunately, Riznyk coped with Trossard’s shot.
Despite all the efforts of Shakhtar’s players, they failed to equalise, although Pedrino had a great chance in stoppage time.
Shakhtar will play their next Champions League match on 6 November, when they will face Swiss side Young Boys in Gelsenkirchen.
As of Tuesday, 23 October, Shakhtar finish the competition day in intermediate 28th position in the Champions League standings.
