Lviv monk breaks two powerlifting records at the Ukrainian Cup: video

At the Ukrainian Cup, the hieromonk of the Studite Order, Makariy Dutka from Lviv region, set two records in the bench press according to the rules of the All-Ukrainian Powerlifting Federation. Fr. Makariy announced his success on his Facebook page, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“At the Ukrainian Cup in Kyiv, I set two new bench press records according to the rules of the Ukrainian Powerlifting Federation. I dedicate the first record (212.5 kg) to the great Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky in the year of his 160th birthday. The second record (215 kg) is dedicated to our defenders, because it is thanks to them that we, as athletes, can do this,” he wrote.

According to him, all attempts with a weight of 205 kg, 213 kg and 215 kg were successful and were counted by the judges.

He failed to set a third record of 218.5 kg. However, he added that “everything is ahead.”

He noted that setting the two records brought in UAH 280,000 in aid to the Armed Forces.
