Ceasefire: Zelensky names three conditions
6 January 08:12
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Ukraine would agree to a ceasefire if it is supplied with weapons to repel future attacks and sanctions against Russia are extended. The head of state said this in a conversation with Lex Friedman, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to him, for a ceasefire, Ukraine must have security guarantees. In his opinion, such guarantees could be NATO membership with the extension of the article on collective defense to the unoccupied territories of Ukraine.
“NATO means strong security guarantees for all people, for us, part of the security guarantee. The second part is a package of weapons. We will not use it. If the cease-fire works, no one will use weapons. Why? But it must remain. Not the way it was before, with all due respect to the US and the administration. But I do not want the situation to repeat itself, as it was with Biden,” the president said.
Zelenskyy also called weapons and the continuation of sanctions against Russia, which will not allow the occupiers to fill the military-industrial complex, a guarantee of security.
“I am asking for sanctions now. Weapons now. And then we will see if they will start. Of course, we will be happy if you give us even more and stand with us side by side,” he said.
Zelensky recorded a more than three-hour interview with American podcaster Lex Friedman.
“A conversation with Lex Friedman. For the first time, an almost three-hour interview for a well-known American podcast. Meaningful answers to difficult questions. The Ukrainian vision of a just peace, which is important for everyone in the partner countries to know,” the president said in a statement on his Telegram channel.
According to Zelenskyy, he spoke “about the strength of our people, the origins of Russia’s criminal aggression, and our willingness to work together with President Trump and all partners to establish a lasting and reliable peace.”
It is worth noting that American interviewer Lex Friedman, known for his podcast with global businessmen and politicians, intends to interview Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in January 2025, as well as to interview Vladimir Putin.
