Russia Attacked the Odesa–Dnipro Train: Ukrzaliznytsia Reveals Details

On the evening of September 2, Russian occupation forces attacked passenger train No. 53/54 from Odesa to Dnipro with a drone. The UAV struck near the train at one of the stations on the Prydniprovska Railway. This was reported by Ukrzaliznytsia, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
The passengers, train crew, and locomotive crew were unharmed. People were evacuated before the strike occurred.
How the passengers were rescued
Ukrzaliznytsia’s monitoring team detected the threat in advance and relayed the information to the staff accompanying the train.
Passengers, the train crew, and the locomotive crew were systematically evacuated from the train to a safe distance.
By the time the Russian drone attacked the station, everyone was already in shelter or outside the danger zone.
According to railway officials:
- no passengers were injured;
- the train crew members were unharmed;
- the locomotive crew was safe;
- the locomotive took the brunt of the impact;
- alternative transportation was arranged for the passengers.
The company emphasized that it was the monitoring team’s prompt response and the timely decision to evacuate that prevented any casualties.

What Happened to the Passengers After the Attack
After the impact, it was impossible for the same locomotive to continue the journey. A bus transfer was arranged for the passengers.
The buses were supposed to take people to their destination station. The Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration assisted in organizing the transportation.
This is the second attack on the Odesa–Dnipro route
The new attack occurred less than three weeks after a deadly strike on a train on the same route in the Odesa region.
On August 13, a Russian jet-powered drone attacked the locomotive of the Dnipro–Odesa passenger train at Buyalyk Station in the Berezivka District of the Odesa region.
The engineer and his assistant were killed in the attack. More than 300 passengers, including dozens of children, were evacuated from the train. No one inside the train cars was injured.
Thus, in less than three weeks, Russian drones have twice attacked passenger trains on the route between Odesa and Dnipro:
- August 13 — a strike in the Odesa region, killing two railway workers;
- September 2—an attack in the Dnipropetrovsk region; people were evacuated in time, and there were no casualties.
The recurrence of these attacks indicates that a high threat to passenger rail service persists in frontline and southern regions.
Russia regularly attacks the railway
Russian occupation forces are systematically striking Ukraine’s railway infrastructure. Their targets include:
- locomotives;
- passenger and freight cars;
- railroad stations;
- depots;
- overhead contact lines;
- tracks and turnouts;
- repair equipment;
- administrative buildings.
On July 24, a Russian drone had already attacked a passenger train in the Dnipropetrovsk region. In that incident, the strike also hit the locomotive, but passengers and railway workers were evacuated in time.
Earlier in the Dnipropetrovsk region, a drone destroyed the locomotive of a freight train. The locomotive crew left the dangerous area in time, but the strike caused a power outage in the overhead contact line.
The intensification of attacks is forcing “Ukrzaliznytsia” to quickly reroute trains, suspend service during threats, and organize bus transfers.
