Russia, Ukraine may hold talks in Istanbul this week: date set

21 July 08:32

This week, Istanbul will once again be at the center of global diplomacy as the city hosts two important international negotiations. On Friday, a meeting is scheduled between Iran and European countries (the United Kingdom, France, and Germany) on Iran’s nuclear program. And in the middle of the week, on Wednesday or Thursday, talks are expected between representatives of Russia and Ukraine. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Independent Türkçe.

Negotiations with Iran on the nuclear program

According to diplomatic sources, regular nuclear talks between Iran and three European countries – the United Kingdom, France, and Germany – will take place in Istanbul on July 25. They will be attended by deputy foreign ministers or national security advisors.

This will be the first official contact between the parties after the recent Israeli and US attacks on Iranian facilities. It is expected that the talks will focus on limiting Tehran’s nuclear activities, updating control mechanisms, and strengthening mutual trust.

Russia and Ukraine: the possibility of new technical agreements

Diplomatic sources also reported that delegations from Russia and Ukraine may arrive in Istanbul this week. The talks may take place on Wednesday or Thursday. Details about the place, time and composition of the delegation are not disclosed.

According to preliminary data, the meeting will not have a broad political format, but will focus on technical issues. Possible topics include the exchange of prisoners, humanitarian aid, infrastructure security, and the protection of border areas.

Preparations for both events are currently underway: locations are being determined, security measures are being coordinated, and logistics are being organized. Both meetings will be closed to the press. Official statements to the media are expected to be released after the talks.
