Russians are attacking Kyiv with drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles: what is known
14 May 03:56
Kyiv is under a massive Russian attack involving strike drones, cruise missiles launched from strategic aircraft, and ballistic missiles fired from the Bryansk and Kursk regions. Air defense forces are operating in the capital, and authorities are urging residents to take shelter. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
What is known about the attack on Kyiv
According to preliminary data, Russian forces are attacking the capital with several types of weapons simultaneously. These include strike UAVs, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles.
In the Dniprovskyi district, debris fell onto the roof of a five-story building, causing a fire. In the Holosiivskyi district, debris was reported to have fallen onto the road.
Authorities urge residents to remain in shelters
Kyiv authorities are urging residents to remain in safe places until the air raid alert is officially lifted. According to reports, some of the projectiles are still moving toward the capital.
During combined attacks, it is particularly dangerous to be near windows, on balconies, in courtyards, or in open areas. Debris from missiles and drones may fall even after air defense systems have engaged.
Which areas of Kyiv have been affected
At the time of the first reports, damage has been reported in two districts of the capital:
- Dniprovskyi District — debris fell on the roof of a five-story building, causing a fire;
- Holosiivskyi District — debris was reported to have fallen onto the road.
Head of the Kyiv City State Administration Timur Tkachenko added that a car is on fire in the Solomianskyi district, and a non-residential building was damaged in the Obolonskyi district.
Information regarding casualties and the extent of the damage is being verified.
Why the attack is dangerous
Combined attacks are among the most challenging for air defense, as Russia simultaneously employs various types of aerial targets. Drones can wear down the air defense system, cruise missiles can change course, and ballistic missiles have a very short flight time.
This is precisely why Kyiv residents are being asked not to ignore the air raid siren, even if no explosions are heard nearby.
