The Russian attack destroyed the work of Ukrainian plant breeders

The Russian attack on the Kyiv region on August 20 destroyed the storage facilities of the All-Ukrainian Scientific Institute of Plant Breeding. The facility housed seed stock, which the company lost entirely. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing a post by the All-Ukrainian Scientific Institute of Plant Breeding on Facebook.
The post also notes that some of the breeding developments the team had been working on for years were destroyed. The company emphasizes that this is not just a matter of material losses, but also the loss of the results of many years of work by breeders, scientists, and the production team.
“For us, this is not just a financial loss. Behind every new hybrid are years of research, testing, and hard work aimed at advancing domestic plant breeding,” VNIS stated.

Despite significant damage and the loss of unique achievements, the company is restoring its operational processes and continuing its activities. The All-Ukrainian Scientific Institute of Plant Breeding reports that, as of August 25, the company’s price list features only fresh seeds from the 2026 harvest.
“We continue to work on Ukrainian soil, develop Ukrainian plant breeding, and produce Ukrainian seeds. Our team remains united. We believe in our cause, in Ukraine’s future, and in our victory. Ukrainian soil deserves Ukrainian seeds,” VNIS emphasized.
The All-Ukrainian Scientific Institute of Plant Breeding was founded in 1999 by Fedor Pariy, Ph.D. in Biological Sciences. Today, it is Ukraine’s leading plant breeding company and a market leader among producers of sunflower, corn, winter rapeseed, sweet corn, spelt, and legume seeds.
