Will reduce lines at border checkpoints: a new bridge has been built on the border with Romania

Romania has officially completed construction of a 260-meter bridge on the border with Ukraine, which will allow for the opening of a new border crossing point, “Bila Tserkva–Sighetu Marmației,” according to a press release from the Transcarpathian Regional Council, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
“The new bridge across the Tisa River and the border crossing point are creating new opportunities for Transcarpathia and Maramures,” the statement said.
On the Ukrainian side, construction of the roadbed and preparation of the corresponding service area are still underway.
“The modern 260-meter structure has already connected our countries. The Romanian side today presented the customs and border infrastructure and access roads. On our side, active construction of the roadbed and preparation of the corresponding service area are underway,” the statement reads.

The new border crossing point will relieve the load on the “Solotvyno – Sighetu Marmatiei” crossing, where a weight limit (up to 3.5 tons) is currently in effect, and the new bridge will allow both freight and passenger transport to cross the border.

The opening of the checkpoint will also create new jobs in the Solotvyno community and surrounding villages.
“The opening of the checkpoint means new jobs, the development of services, logistics centers, and the hotel industry in the Solotvyno community and surrounding villages,” the statement reads.
Agreement on construction
Ukraine and Romania agreed on the new “Bila Tserkva – Sighetu Marmatiei” border crossing back in 2020. It was planned that each country would build its own road and transport infrastructure on its side, while Romania would construct the bridge across the Tisa River.
Romania began construction of the bridge in March 2023. Completion was planned for the second half of 2024.
Construction Cost
The project for a new bridge across the Tisa River between the towns of Bila Tserkva (Transcarpathia, Ukraine) and Sighetu Marmației (Marmarosh, Romania) costs 147.9 million lei (over $32 million). Most of the funding comes from the European Union.
In 2021, Ukraine decided to build a bridge across the Dniester to Moldova at its own expense for 3.38 billion hryvnias. The tender was won by the company Autostrada. The bridge is intended to form the backbone of a new highway between Kyiv and Chișinău. It will connect the Ukrainian T-02-02 highway (Mogyliv-Podilskyi–Yampil–Bershad–Uman) with the Moldovan M-2 highway.
Due to the full-scale war, the project has been put on hold, but it has not been abandoned.
