The U.S. launched its first strike against Iran in a month

On Sunday, August 30, the U.S. military struck two Iranian missile launchers on Lareq Island in the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported by U.S. media outlets, including CBS News and the online publication Axios, which noted that this was the first U.S. strike against the Islamic Republic since late July, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was preparing to launch missiles carrying sea mines toward the Strait of Hormuz. As CENTCOM spokesperson Tim Hawkins noted, last week the U.S. military completed the clearance of trade routes passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
As U.S. President Donald Trump noted at the time, a week ago, Tehran was informed that any ship or other vessel laying mines would be “immediately and systematically destroyed.”
Iran’s Response to the U.S. Strike on Lareq Island
Larek Island is located a few nautical miles off the coast of Iran. In response to the U.S. strikes on targets on the island, the IRGC threatened that the U.S. would “pay for them on both the economic and military fronts.” This statement was reported by the Iranian state news agency Fars.
For its part, the Iranian agency Tasmin, affiliated with the IRGC, reported that the strike was carried out by a drone. According to the report, two people were killed and two others were wounded as a result of the U.S. attack.
No Progress in Resolving the War in Iran
The U.S. military has not carried out strikes against Iran since late July. Trump explained this decision by his desire to continue negotiations with Tehran regarding the Strait of Hormuz, as well as on the issues of sanctions and Iran’s nuclear program.
Against the backdrop of a lack of progress in resolving the conflict with Iran, Donald Trump declared “economic war” on the Islamic Republic.
