Almost 2,900 new millionaires emerged in Ukraine

Last year, 12,374 people declared incomes of more than UAH 1 million, and the number of official millionaires increased by 16% over the year. The data on the results of the declaration of income received by citizens in 2022 was made public by Danylo Hetmantsev, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy, according to
“The number of declarations worth more than UAH 1 million increased by 16%. Such declarations were filed by 12374 people. Thus, the number of millionaires increased by 2863 people year-on-year. The tax liabilities to be paid to the budget by such “millionaires” are determined in the amount of UAH 2,756.0 million, and military duty – UAH 526.5 million,”
– the statement said.
In 2023, Ukrainians filed 266,000 property and income declarations. The amount of declared income was UAH 147.92 billion.
A significant part of the declarations – 112 thousand – were filed in connection with the use of the right to a tax rebate. The amount of personal income tax to be refunded from the budget is UAH 444.08 million.
Based on the results of the personal income tax returns filed by individuals in 2023, the following was paid
- personal income tax – UAH 4,539.02 million
- military duty – UAH 946.09 million.
Resumption of declaration
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, the mandatory verification of officials’ declarations has been temporarily cancelled. Despite this, the obligation of officials to regularly report on their property status and any changes in it remains unchanged.
on 12 October 2023, the Law on the Restoration of Declarations came into force. At the same time, the declaration campaign for 2021-2022 was launched and lasted until 31 January 2024. Ukrainian officials had to catch up with the missing declarations for the previous period (2021-2022) by the end of January.
It should be noted that the deadline for submitting declarations for 2023 remains unchanged – until April 2024.
Earlier, the NABU and the SAPO served a notice of suspicion of making false statements in the electronic declaration for 2020 to a current member of the Ukrainian parliament. In 2020, he declared cryptocurrency with a market value of over UAH 24 million.
