Suspect in Brown University shooting arrested

A suspect has been detained after an attack on an elite American university in Providence, Rhode Island, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

“We have detained a person of interest in connection with yesterday’s shooting at Brown University,” the Providence Police Department said on Sunday, December 14.

The police also noted that the order not to leave the closed premises was canceled. No details were provided about the identity of the detainee. “No further suspects are being sought in connection with the attack, police Colonel Oscar Perez said at a press conference.

One of the wounded is in critical condition

Rhode Island Governor Dan Mackey expressed condolences over the deaths of two people. The shooting at the Barus & Holley Engineering Building of Brown University on the evening of December 13 killed two students and injured 9 others. According to the authorities, one of the victims is in critical condition, and another has been discharged. The other seven people who were injured are in stable condition. At the time of the attack, exams were taking place in the building.

A video previously released by the police shows a man wearing black clothes. The alleged shooter left the campus on foot and remained at large for several hours. More than 400 security personnel took part in the search for him.

Barus & Holley has more than 100 laboratories, dozens of classrooms and several offices. According to eyewitnesses, armed law enforcement officers in tactical gear arrived at the scene. US President Donald Trump was informed of the incident, and he posted on Truth Social about the FBI’s presence at the scene. The university, a member of the elite Ivy League, has more than 10,400 students.
