UAH 30 thousand minimum: MPs are going to significantly raise police salaries

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has passed in the first reading the bill No. 6506-1, which provides for a significant increase in police salaries. The results of the vote were announced by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak on his Telegram channel, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The document was supported by 261 MPs. The main point of the draft law is the establishment of a guaranteed minimum official salary for police officers as a key component of their financial support.
The draft law stipulates that the minimum official salary of a police officer cannot be less than 10 subsistence minimums for able-bodied persons. As of 2025, this will be at least UAH 30,280.
However, that’s not all, as police salaries consist of more than just the official salary. The salary of police officers consists of the following parts:
- base salary;
- monthly bonuses for length of service;
- additional payments for special ranks, work with state secrets, academic degree or academic rank;
- bonuses.
Therefore, not all police officers will receive the minimum wage of UAH 30,280. The vast majority of them will receive a much higher salary.
According to the explanatory note to the draft law, this level of salary for law enforcement officers should correspond to the complexity, intensity, and danger of their work. It should also ensure the attraction of qualified personnel, motivate them to serve effectively, and compensate them for their physical and intellectual expenses.
It is expected that the adoption of this law will help raise the prestige of police service, improve recruitment, and stimulate effective law enforcement.

How much do police officers get paid today
According to the recruitment portal Work.ua, the average salary of a police officer in Ukraine is currently 20,100 UAH. This data is based on the analysis of 153 vacancies on the portal, but it is most likely that this is the salary without additional payments and bonuses that police departments indicate in their vacancies.
At the same time, in January of this year, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko stated that the average salary of a police officer in Ukraine is about UAH 35,000. In this case, we are obviously talking about cash payments with additional payments and bonuses.
Therefore, setting the minimum salary for law enforcement officers at UAH 30,280 will be a very significant increase in their salaries, and the average payments to police officers will likely rise to more than a thousand dollars a month.
