World Teachers’ Day
Today, at the initiative of the United Nations, the world celebrates World Teachers’ Day. Teacher’s Day is a professional holiday for all education workers.
The holiday has been celebrated since 1994. It was on this day, in 1966, that a conference convened by UNESCO and the International Labour Organisation adopted the Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, the first international document outlining the working conditions of teachers.
Celebrations take place in more than 100 countries around the world, although some countries also have a national Teacher’s Day, including Ukraine.
International Postman’s Day
The holiday falls on the first Saturday of October. This holiday was established in 1969 at the XVI Congress of the Union of Postmen, which took place in Tokyo.
The purpose of this day is to honour the work of postmen, who play an important role in our lives by delivering mail and printed materials.
World Walking Day
Falls on the first weekend in October. This holiday was established in 1991 by the International Association of Sport for All (TAFISA) in Germany.
The purpose of this day is to promote walking as an accessible and beneficial form of physical activity that contributes to better health and overall well-being. In many countries, various events such as mass walks, marathons and other activities are held to engage people in a healthy lifestyle.
International Day Against Prostitution
This holiday was established in 2002 at the initiative of the American feminist group Escape. The aim of this day is to raise awareness of the problems of prostitution, human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
Various events are held on this day, such as candlelight vigils, rallies and pickets, to draw attention to these issues and support victims of sexual exploitation. It is also an opportunity to discuss the social, economic and moral aspects of prostitution.
What is the church holiday on 5 October?
5 October is the day of remembrance of the holy martyr Charity.
She has become a symbol of faith, courage and steadfastness in the face of persecution. In her childhood, Charity was left an orphan and raised by a pious Christian, Claudius. Thanks to her faith and kindness, she converted many people to Christianity.
During the persecutions of Emperor Diocletian, Charity was severely tortured, but did not give up her faith. She was martyred in 304. Her example inspires many people to be courageous and committed to their beliefs.

Saint Charity is prayed for her health and that of her loved ones, for good work, family well-being and prosperity in the family. Haritina is also considered the patron saint of needlewomen, weavers and seamstresses.
