500 thousand for “disability”: scheme to avoid service in the Armed Forces exposed in Khmelnytskyi region

A 53-year-old businesswoman who helped people liable for military service to obtain a disability group and avoid service in the Armed Forces for more than UAH 500,000 was exposed in Khmelnytsky region. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the National Police.
The National Police reported that the businesswoman works in the field of pharmaceuticals.
“Having influence on officials of the city hospital and the regional centre of the Medical Expertise Commission, the offender demanded money from a person of military age for help in resolving the issue of postponing the draft and preparing the relevant documents,” the report said.
The suspect estimated the cost of obtaining a disability group II certificate for a person subject to mobilisation or preparing fictitious documents for unimpeded travel abroad at more than half a million hryvnias. The woman received the money in several stages.
Law enforcement officers detained the businesswoman in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine on receiving a $12,000 bribe, which is about half a million hryvnias in national currency. A month earlier, the suspect received the first part of the tranche in the amount of UAH 35,000.
“At the scene of the crime, the police seized the object of the bribe, the entrepreneur’s mobile phone, and forged documents,” the statement said.
Based on the collected evidence, the suspect was served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 332 (Illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine) and Part 2 of Article 369-2 (Abuse of influence) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The woman faces up to nine years in prison.
