on 17 July, former employee of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Roman Chervinskyi was released from the pre-trial detention centre in Kropyvnytskyi. The former intelligence officer was released on bail of UAH 9 million. At the same time, the lawyers called Chervinsky’s case political and filed a corresponding application with the European Court of Human Rights. This was reported exclusively to Komersant ukrainskyi by the serviceman’s lawyer, Viktor Vasylyuk.

According to him, Chervinsky was imprisoned illegally, and some judges refused to consider the case and recused themselves because they understood that the ex-intelligence officer’s case was falsified.

“The investigation was carried out by Chervinsky’s lawyers, who obtained all the evidence and confirm that Chervinsky had nothing to do with the events that took place at the Kanatove airfield. The case against him is completely falsified. The judges are under pressure from the Presidential Administration and therefore cannot close the case, because tomorrow they will be dismissed from their jobs,”

– the lawyer commented.

Lawyer Konstantin Globa said that the trial lasted 7 hours. The representative of four victims announced their withdrawal from the case.

Moreover, Chervinsky’s lawyers filed an application with the European Court of Human Rights.

“We have filed an application with the European Court of Human Rights, in which we raise the issue of recognising this case as political. And if the ECHR determines that it is political, and there is all the evidence for this, it will have serious consequences for Ukraine as a whole,”

– said Viktor Vasylyuk

If the court decided to change the measure of restraint from custody to bail, it is absolutely the right decision, he told mP, member of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence Fedir Venislavskyi. He says that the public danger and the act are also taken into account. So the court evaluates all the circumstances and arguments

However, he refuses to call Chervinsky’s case political.

“There is no reason to say that this is a political persecution. I know more information from the structures that were involved in this operation. There are indeed grounds for the law enforcement agencies to dot the i’s and cross the t’s,

– Venislavsky commented.

27 MPs and 51 individuals have expressed a desire to take him on bail. In particular, this was announced by the full European Solidarity faction headed by Petro Poroshenko. The fifth President wrote the following about Chervinsky’s case:

“I decided to offer Roman and his family to pay the part of the bail amount that is not enough to fulfil the court’s decision on bail. So that after numerous court hearings and outright abuse, Roman could finally be free and continue his struggle as a free man – for truth, justice and Ukraine!”

– Petro Poroshenko wrote.

The next court hearing is scheduled for 24 July in the Kirivograd District Court. According to the lawyer, it will be held in a closed session. Roman Chervinsky also commented on his release from custody.

“Most of all, I am grateful to the people who came to the hearings and supported me, because it was faith that saved me. Today I will see my children, wife, mother and other relatives,

– Chervinsky said.

Roman Chervinsky is an officer of the Special Operations Forces and a former employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate.

He is accused of abuse of power during the attempted hijacking of a Russian military aircraft. The prosecution claims that as a result of his actions, the Russian Federation launched a missile strike on the Kanatove airfield in Kirovohrad region in July 2022.
