Payment scam: fraudsters masquerading as the Red Cross and Ukrenergo
12 February 04:08
A fake channel called “Energy Support from the EU” has appeared on Telegram, through which attackers are spreading false messages about alleged cash payments. The scammers ask people to fill out a form to get “energy assistance” from NPC Ukrenergo and the Ukrainian Red Cross, but their real goal is to get personal info. This was reported by the Ukrainian Red Cross, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
How the scheme works
On a fake Telegram channel, users are asked to “register” and fill out a form, supposedly to receive financial support.
Such forms usually ask for personal information, from phone numbers to other personal data.

The Ukrainian Red Cross emphasized that the organization has not published such announcements and does not register for such “energy assistance.”
“The Ukrainian Red Cross always announces its programs and partnerships officially. We urge you to be careful and not to share your data with third parties,” the press service said.
Where to check information about assistance
The Ukrainian Red Cross emphasized that up-to-date information about support programs and partnership projects is published only on the organization’s official resources — on its website and verified social media pages.
What to do if you come across a fake
Experts advise:
- do not click on suspicious links;
- do not fill out questionnaires on questionable channels;
- do not provide personal data or card details;
- if necessary, report the fake channel on Telegram.
Fraudsters regularly masquerade as well-known institutions and use the themes of “payments” and “assistance” to mislead people. Therefore, any messages about support should only be verified through official sources.
