Medvedchuk’s arrested yacht costs Ukraine $20 million annually

The superyacht ROYAL ROMANCE, owned by Viktor Medvedchuk, remains under arrest in the Croatian port of Split following decisions of Ukrainian and Croatian courts. The vessel is managed by the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA).
According to LIGA.net, the annual maintenance costs of the yacht reach $15-20 million, which are covered by the Ukrainian state through ARMA. This amount is necessary to maintain the technical condition of the vessel and prevent the loss of its market value.
ARMA is actively considering the possibility of selling the yacht to stop the financial burden on the state budget and avoid further depreciation of the asset. Experts point out that the high cost of maintaining seized yachts is a strong argument for speeding up their sale through auctions.
As a reminder, in December 2024, the High Anti-Corruption Court blocked the sale of the property of Medvedchuk and his wife Oksana Marchenko due to doubts about the effectiveness of the ARMA. The Ministry of Justice insists on transferring the assets to the State Property Fund for more efficient management.
Medvedchuk’s other assets include the Samara-Western Direction oil pipeline, which already brings the state more than UAH 170 million a year, and unique old prints, including a fragment of the Gutenberg Bible.

Royal Romance: Medvedchuk’s royal life
The Royal Romance is a 92-meter luxury yacht built by the Dutch shipyard Feadship in 2015. The yacht, worth about $200 million, can accommodate up to 14 guests and 22 crew members, and is powered by two powerful MTU diesel engines with a total capacity of over 6,000 horsepower. Among the vessel’s features are a 14-meter swimming pool on the main aft deck and an elevator.
The yacht was registered in the Cayman Islands and was owned by pro-Russian oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk before the arrest. The vessel was not leased and was used exclusively for the owner’s personal needs. The Royal Romance can reach a maximum speed of 15 nautical knots and has a steel hull with an aluminum superstructure and teak decks.
The legal status of the yacht has changed several times in recent years, from arrest by Ukrainian courts to temporary lifting of restrictions by the Supreme Court of Croatia and re-arrest by the Pechersk Court in Kyiv.
