An initiative has been launched in Ukraine that could dramatically change the fate of thousands of families whose homes were destroyed by the war. Architect Oleksandr Prokopov called on his colleagues across the country to join a volunteer project to restore private housing.
“There are tens of thousands of us. If everyone does at least one free project to restore a destroyed house, we will be able to help a huge number of Ukrainians,” Prokopov addressed the architectural community.
The initiative has already had its first results: a house in Buzova village, Kyiv-Svyatoshyn district, was restored on the basis of a volunteer project. Architects not only recreate the destroyed buildings, but also improve their layout and appearance.
The project is designed to help primarily residents of the de-occupied territories, where a large number of private houses were partially or completely destroyed as a result of hostilities.
Architects, join us! Your experience is a chance for a new life for hundreds of Ukrainian families.
More than 234,000 residential buildings (86,000 private and 18,000 multi-apartment) have been damaged or destroyed, according to the Register of Damaged/Destroyed Objects. ≈ 13% of Ukraine’s total housing stock has been damaged or destroyed, affecting more than 2.5 million residential buildings, or 60 million square meters of housing.
