On the night of December 27, Russian troops launched a massive attack on Ukraine’s energy and civilian infrastructure. Electricity generation, transmission, and distribution facilities in Kyiv and Kyiv region were hit.

According to him, the enemy used a total of almost 500 attack drones and about 40 missiles, including aerial ballistic missiles of the “Dagger” type. Attacks on energy infrastructure continued throughout the day.
Substations, overhead power lines, and some generation facilities were severely damaged as a result of the shelling. As a result, emergency power outages were introduced in Kyiv and Kyiv region. In most regions of Ukraine, hourly blackout schedules and power restrictions for industry and business are still in place.
As of 15:00, more than 500,000 consumers in Kyiv and Kyiv region are without power. Russian attacks have also cut off power in other regions, including Chernihiv Oblast, where more than 22,000 consumers are without electricity.
Despite significant damage, Ukraine’s integrated power system remains intact and continues to operate in parallel with the power system of continental Europe. Electricity imports are being used to balance the system and measures are being taken to limit consumption.
The response to the attacks and the restoration of electricity and heat supply have already begun. Repair crews are working in an intensive mode, but the work is complicated by constant air raids. Power engineers are doing their best to bring electricity and heat back to Ukrainian homes as soon as possible.
