17 November 12:55

On the night of Monday, November 17, Russian occupation forces launched another massive attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Facilities in five regions were damaged. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Ministry of Energy.

Power facilities in the following regions were hit:

  • Kharkiv,
  • Sumy, and
  • Chernihiv, and
  • Odesa,
  • Donetsk, and Odesa oblasts.

Emergency teams are already working at all damaged facilities. Repair and restoration works are underway, but their pace depends on the security situation in each region.

Electricity consumption has increased sharply

According to Ukrenergo, on the morning of November 17, electricity consumption increased by 9.7% compared to the level of the previous business day, Friday, November 14.

Power engineers explain:

  • “Cloudy weather prevailed in most regions,
  • which reduced the efficiency of household solar power plants,
  • and the need for electricity from the centralized grid has increased accordingly.

Blackout schedules are in effect across the country

In most regions, hourly blackout schedules are now in place, ranging from 1 to 4 rounds.
In addition, power limitation schedules are in place for industrial enterprises and businesses.

Ukrenergo warns that the increased demand for electricity will continue throughout the day.

A call to save money

Power engineers are asking citizens to reduce the load on the grid:

  • not to turn on powerful electrical appliances at the same time;
  • if possible, to postpone energy-intensive processes after 22:00
  • follow the outage schedules and monitor updates.

Ukrenergo emphasizes that economical electricity consumption will help reduce the duration of forced blackouts.
