Railroad attacks: trains run on changed routes in Sumy region

9 October 11:28

Despite the enemy’s repeated attacks on the railroad infrastructure, train traffic in the direction of Sumy region has not been halted. “Ukrzaliznytsia promptly organized the traffic on the changed routes. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the company’s press service.

“The enemy is attacking the railroad again, but we are not stopping traffic – we are carrying passengers heading to Sumy region on other routes,” the statement said.

In particular, this applies to regional flights:

  • no. 895 Konotop – Fastiv;
  • no. 888/887 Slavutych – Kyiv-Volynskyi;
  • no. 892 Fastiv – Slavutych.

Suburban trains currently run to Nosivka station, from where they also depart in the opposite direction.

Long-distance trains, including:

  • no. 787 Tereshchenska – Kyiv;
  • no. 786 Kyiv – Tereshchenska;
  • no. 113 Kharkiv – Lviv;
  • no. 779 Sumy – Kyiv;
  • no. 116 Kyiv – Sumy;
  • no. 774 Zhmerynka – Tereshchenska, are being detoured to their final stations.

Attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure

Russian troops continue to systematically target Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, including transportation and energy. These attacks are aimed at hampering logistics, supplies and evacuations, as well as creating additional pressure on the civilian population ahead of winter.

It is worth reminding that the railway infrastructure is one of the key ones for Ukraine in wartime: it is used to transport military supplies, humanitarian aid and evacuations.

In the summer of 2024, Ukrzaliznytsia reported that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than 100 rail infrastructure facilities had been damaged by attacks.

Russia systematically attacks Ukraine’s energy facilities. In 2022-2023, this led to large-scale blackouts, and the authorities warn that the winter of 2025/26 could be even more difficult.

What’s next

Experts are already working to restore train traffic and power supply. At the same time, the military warns that attacks on infrastructure may intensify during the cold season, when the pressure on the power system is greatest
