Shaheed attacks are possible thanks to 4 powers, so the US cannot withdraw – The Times

The Shahed-136 strike drones, which Moscow has renamed Geranium, are the product of a complex international cooperation that unites the efforts of four states. Therefore, the United States should take this into account in its efforts to disassociate itself from the Russian-Ukrainian war, The Times writes.

According to the newspaper, Iranian drones are equipped with Chinese parts and assembled at Russian enterprises with the involvement of North Korean workers. This distribution of production indicates the formation of a new military bloc aimed at Western countries.

Journalists refer to a statement by China’s foreign minister, who allegedly told EU representatives about Beijing’s interest in continuing the Ukrainian conflict. This position is intended to prevent the United States from completely switching its attention to the Chinese direction.

The technical components of the drones are also of Chinese origin. The four-cylinder engine is manufactured by Xiamen Limbach, and the electronic components – transmitters and converters – are supplied by the Beijing Institute of Microelectronic Technology.

Statistics show a sharp increase in the intensity of the use of these drones: while last summer Russia launched about 350 Shaheds per month, in June 2025, 5,438 launches were recorded.

These slow but highly effective drones have become a key element of Russian attacks. Shortly after a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, Russia launched the most powerful combined drone and missile strike since the beginning of the war.

The Times emphasizes that the coalition refutes American expectations that it could “switch” from the Ukrainian direction to the confrontation with China over Taiwan. These conflicts are closely interconnected, and modern wars do not take place in a vacuum, the newspaper emphasizes.
