Austria intends to support a new package of sanctions against Russia

Austria will approve the 19th package of sanctions against Russia at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg on Monday, October 20. This was reported by the APA news agency with reference to the Austrian Foreign Ministry, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The ministry said that Vienna supports “continued pressure on Russia.” In addition to Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, including sanctions against Israel, will be discussed in Luxembourg. Austria will be represented by NEOS State Secretary Seepp Schellhorn.
Austria has previously called for the exemption of Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI) from sanctions. However, this request was not supported by any EU member state. The reason for this was RBI’s demand to release shares in the Austrian construction group Strabag, which are estimated to be worth about €2 billion.
As FPÖ foreign policy spokesperson Susanne Fürst told APA, “the government is sacrificing neutrality and prosperity for Brussels’ sanctions madness.”
Earlier, EUObserver wrote that Hungary and Slovakia may postpone new sanctions against Russia.
