“Indian summer is postponed: the weather forecaster told when there will be a chance for sunny weather

Despite the hopes of Ukrainians for warm and sunny weather in early October, we should not expect a real “Indian summer” this weekend. This was stated by weather forecaster Natalia Golenya in an exclusive commentary to "Komersant Ukrainian", emphasizing that the weather conditions do not correspond to the classic signs of this period.

According to the forecaster, in the coming days we are expected to see rains and clouds instead of sunshine. Thus, on October 4-5, almost the entire territory of Ukraine will remain under the influence of the cyclone, which will form rainy and cloudy weather. Although temperatures will rise slightly compared to the last few days, precipitation and the lack of stable sun do not allow us to call this weekend “Indian summer.”

Even if the temperature rises to 15-16 degrees, and in some places up to 20 degrees, but it rains, it cannot be considered an Indian summer. It implies clear, warm, dry and sunny weather. If there are clouds and precipitation, even at comfortable temperatures, we are talking only about a short warming, but not about a real Indian summer,” the forecaster explained.

Regional forecast

On Saturday, October 4, the sun will still be visible in the capital until noon, but in the afternoon, clouds will prevail again, with light rains in some places. A similar situation is forecast for most of the central regions.

  • Western Ukraine will remain the coolest region: the daytime temperature here will be only 10…12 degrees.
  • The north and center will get 13 to 16 degrees.
  • The Left Bank can expect 15…16 degrees.
  • It will be warmest in the east and southeast, where thermometers will show up to 20 degrees.

On Sunday, October 5, cloud cover will increase and the temperature will drop by an average of 2-3 degrees. In the west, it will fluctuate between 9 and 11, in the center and north – 12 and 14, while in the east, 16 and 17 are still possible.

Prospects for October

Although Ukrainians are expected to experience cool and rainy weather this weekend, forecasters do not rule out that a short period in the middle of the month may still be more in line with the concept of “Indian summer.”

Preliminarily, approximately after October 8-9, the synoptic situation is expected to change. An anticyclone may approach from the west, bringing clear and dry weather. If this forecast is confirmed, Ukraine will indeed experience conditions similar to the classic Indian summer for several days,” Golenya said.

However, she emphasized that the forecast is still very preliminary, as the situation with atmospheric fronts changes every day.

Thus, in early October, Ukrainians will have to do without a real “Indian summer”. Despite a slight warming, the weather will be spoiled by a cyclone, clouds and rains. At the same time, forecasters remain hopeful that in the middle of the month, the anticyclone will be able to give Ukrainians a few days of really warm and sunny autumn.

What is Indian summer?

Climatologists explain: “Indian summer is a short period of warm and dry weather that usually occurs after the first noticeable cold snap in the fall. Its characteristic features are sunny days, no precipitation, low winds, and temperatures that are significantly higher than average for this period. That’s why even relatively high thermometer readings are not considered Indian summer if they are accompanied by rain and clouds.
