The balance of power is shifting: in February, Ukraine liberated more territory than it lost
10 March 21:34
During an offensive operation in the Oleksandrivka direction, Ukrainian defense forces almost completely liberated the Dnipropetrovsk region from Russian troops. This was reported in an interview with RBC-Ukraine by Major General Oleksandr Komarenko, Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to him, Ukrainian units now need to take control of three more small settlements and clear two others.
How much territory has already been liberated
As part of the offensive operation, the Ukrainian military has liberated more than 400 square kilometers of territory.
In some of these territories, units also cleared rear areas where Russian troops who had infiltrated during the fighting remained.
The Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine played a special role in the offensive, liberating nine settlements in this direction as of March 2.
Russia’s intention to create a “buffer zone”
According to Komarenko, Russian troops tried to advance into the Dnipropetrovsk region to create a so-called “buffer zone” there.
This, he said, is consistent with the rhetoric of the Russian leadership regarding plans to expand controlled territories and capture the entire Donbas.
How the balance on the front line has changed
The active actions of the Ukrainian military have influenced the overall balance of hostilities on the front line.
According to the representative of the General Staff, in February, the Ukrainian Defense Forces liberated more territory than they lost, which indicates positive dynamics in certain areas.
