Banks financed one-third of Ukraine’s energy capacity needs

In the energy sector, banks financed 33 billion hryvnia, which provided 1.3 GW of capacity, but Ukraine’s needs are at least three times greater, so there is a need for further lending.
This was reported by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“We met with the head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Andriy Pyshny. We discussed the draft plan for regional energy sustainability and the necessary resources, in particular the possibility of involving banks in financing the needs of energy restoration and protection,” she said on Telegram.
They also touched on the issue of financial stability, Svyrydenko said. Ukraine’s receipt of an EFF assistance program from the IMF in the amount of $8.1 billion for 2026-2029, which the Fund’s Board of Directors approved this week, should also provide significant support in this area.
“Among the additional areas of development is an increase in credit penetration of business. This is necessary to finance the reconstruction of infrastructure, in particular energy infrastructure,” Svyrydenko wrote.
As of now, this indicator stands at 8-9% of GDP. For example, in the energy sector, banks financed UAH 33 billion, which provided 1.3 GW of capacity, while the demand is at least three times higher. An agreement was reached to accelerate joint work.
