Banks reduced mortgage issuance and raised interest rates – NBU

In September, Ukrainian banks issued 681 mortgage loans totaling UAH 1.2 billion. This is reported by the press service of the National Bank, citing the results of a monthly survey of banks, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The volume of mortgage loans granted to the population in September decreased by 1.8% compared to the previous month, and by 0.6% compared to September last year.
The weighted average effective interest rate on mortgage loans in September rose to 8.3% per annum from 8.2% in August.
In September, 12 banks that lent money for housing purchases reported issuing new mortgages. Most transactions, as before, were made in the secondary real estate market. Almost all loans in September were granted under the preferential program “eHouse”.

In terms of regions, the largest number of mortgage loans were issued in September:
- in Kyiv and Kyiv region (371 agreements totaling UAH 714.8 million, which is 59.3% of the total volume)
- in Lviv region (38 agreements for UAH 72.3 million)
- odesa region (30 contracts for UAH 47.9 million),
- vinnytsia region (25 contracts for UAH 41.9 million).
During the survey in October 2024, 39 banks responded, accounting for 98.9% of the total gross mortgage portfolio as of the end of 2021.
