The spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, denied media reports that the father of the deceased Ukrainian woman could not travel abroad due to restrictions on men of military age. This was reported by Ukrinform, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to Demchenko:
- “Stanislav Zarutsky did not receive a refusal to leave,
- all the necessary documents for the trip to the United States were issued on time,
- the departure took place for humanitarian reasons, and the family is receiving consular assistance.

Iryna Zarutska, a refugee from Ukraine, was brutally murdered on August 22 at a light rail station in Charlotte, North Carolina.
- The suspect, 34-year-old Decarlos Brown, was arrested upon police arrival.
- He has a long criminal history, having been arrested 14 times since 2011.
