US President Joseph Biden has announced a new package of sanctions against Russia to mark the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. The White House released a statement, according to

“Today, I am announcing more than 500 new sanctions against Russia for its ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine and for the death of Alexei Navalny… These sanctions will target individuals associated with Navalny’s imprisonment, as well as Russia’s financial sector, military-industrial base, procurement networks, and sanctions evaders on multiple continents… We are also imposing new export restrictions on nearly 100 organisations that provide support to the Russian military machine. We are taking steps to further reduce Russia’s energy revenues,”

– biden said.

He also reminded that Ukraine is running out of ammunition and called on the House of Representatives to approve aid to Ukraine as soon as possible.

“Two years into this war, the people of Ukraine continue to fight with great courage. But they are running out of ammunition. Ukraine needs additional supplies from the United States to hold the line against Russia’s relentless attacks… That’s why the House of Representatives must pass the bipartisan National Security Supplemental Bill before it’s too late. This bill provides urgent funding for Ukraine. It also invests in America’s own defence industrial base,”

– the US President added.

Delay in funding assistance to Ukraine

The US Congress has been unable to agree on a military aid bill for Ukraine since autumn 2023. President Joe Biden has proposed a national security bill worth more than $100 billion, including $61 billion to help Kyiv.

The document was not approved by Republicans, who want to include in the bill tighter border and migration measures on the US-Mexico border.

US President Joe Biden said he would not support a bill to help Israel initiated by Republicans in the House of Representatives without taking into account Ukraine’s needs.

on 13 February, the US Senate passed a bill unblocking aid to Ukraine. It provides for aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan totalling $95.34 billion, of which $61 billion is earmarked for Ukraine.

The bill now needs to be supported by the US House of Representatives, where Republicans also refuse to vote for aid to Ukraine.

But the US Congress went on holiday without approving aid to Ukraine.
