US President Joe Biden believes that a just peace for Ukraine does not include joining NATO. He said this in an interview with Time, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

According to him, peace for Ukraine is when Russia never occupies it.

“Peace looks like this – making sure that Russia never, ever, ever, ever occupies Ukraine. This is what peace looks like. And it does not mean NATO, that they are part of NATO. It means that we have a relationship with them, as we do with other countries where we supply weapons, so that they can defend themselves in the future,”

– biden said.

At the same time, the US president stressed that his goal is not to make Ukraine a part of NATO. Moreover, he reminded that he was among those who opposed Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance.

“If you notice, I was the one who said that I was not ready to support the NATOisation of Ukraine,”

– the US president said.

To explain this position, he mentioned corruption in Ukraine.

“I spent a month in Ukraine when I was a senator and vice president. There was a lot of corruption there. The situation was really difficult,”

– the American leader recalled.

However, Biden also warned that Ukraine’s defeat would set off a chain reaction.

“If we ever allow Ukraine to fall, mark my words: you will see Poland leave, and you will see all these states along the actual border with Russia, from the Balkans to Belarus, all of them will make their own arrangements,”

– the US President warned.

Asked by a journalist whether NATO’s assistance to Ukraine does not put the Alliance on the slippery slope of war with Russia, Biden replied that the absence of such assistance will lead to this path.

A few days ago, Biden approved Ukraine’s strikes on Russian territory(but there is a nuance). It also became known that the US President will not attend the Peace Summit in Switzerland. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Putin would “give a standing ovation” to this decision.
