President of the United States Joe Biden has made an address to the American people in which he explained the reasons for withdrawing his candidacy from the presidential race. This is stated in a video message from the head of the White House on the social network X, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

During his address to the nation from the Oval Office, Biden called his decision to withdraw from the race “a matter of democracy”.

He called the 2024 presidential election a choice “between moving forward and backward, between hope and hate.”

“I honour this position, but I love my country more. It has been my lifelong honour to serve as your president, but in defence of the democracy that is at stake – and that is more important than any title. I find strength and joy in working for the American people,” Biden said.

He also stressed that Americans will have many choices this autumn and called for unity in the fight to save democracy. He supports Kamala Harris and urged Americans to “make the right choice”.

In addition, Biden described the 2024 elections as a struggle to save democracy and said that this is why he decided to pass the torch to a new generation.

“I believe that my record as president, my leadership in the world, my vision for the future of America – all of this deserves a second term. But nothing, nothing can stand in the way of saving our democracy – including my personal ambitions. So I decided that the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. This is the best way to unite our nation,” he said.

The US President also said that Americans must come together to protect the country.

What happened before

on 17 July, US President Joe Biden was diagnosed with coronavirus immediately after he announced that he might withdraw from the race due to the disease.

This happened against the backdrop of very active talk that Biden was not ready for another presidency due to his own health, primarily mental health. They intensified after Biden’s debate with Trump, during which the current president looked very unfortunate in this context.

As reported, according to a survey by the AP-NORC Public Affairs Research Centre, almost two-thirds of Democrats believed that US President Joe Biden should withdraw from the presidential election and allow his party to nominate another candidate.

Donors to US President Joe Biden’s election campaign have announced the suspension of about $90 million of their donations.

TheUnited States’ European allies were also concerned about President Joe Biden’s health and age and doubted his ability to defeat former President Donald Trump.

Under such pressure, Biden decided to withdraw from the race and called on Democrats to nominate the current US Vice President Kamala Harris instead. Zelenskyy called it a “tough but strong decision”.
