Without Starlink, Russian assaults in the north lost control

Russian troops continue to exert pressure along Ukraine’s northern border, but without tactical breakthroughs or noticeable results. The shutdown of Starlink and difficult weather conditions have significantly affected the occupiers’ ability to conduct assault operations.
This was stated by the Joint Forces Operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the Ukrainian military, isolated groups of Russians are operating in the Kupiansk direction, who are not actually conducting offensive operations, but are trying to survive under the fire pressure of the Defense Forces.
In the Vovchansk area and on the border, attempts to advance without systematic control and coordination have been recorded.
The Joint Forces Group notes that the shutdown of Starlink satellite communications, combined with unfavorable weather conditions, “has effectively paralyzed the enemy’s key tactic — the use of small assault groups under the cover of drones.”
“Without stable communications and control, such groups lose their effectiveness, and the enemy currently has no alternative solutions,” the statement said.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasize that the situation in the northern direction remains under control, despite constant pressure from Russian troops.
What preceded
On January 23, information emerged that the Russians were increasingly using drones with Starlink to bypass Ukrainian air defense.
Soon after, the Ministry of Digital Transformation announced the introduction of a “whitelist” mode, and the initiative is being implemented by the Ministry of Defense in conjunction with SpaceX.
As a result, for security reasons, the terminals began to operate in stationary mode and with speed restrictions during movement.
After that, it became known that the Ukrainian military needed to quickly verify the Starlink terminals they use for defense purposes so that they could continue to operate after being blocked.
The Russians, in turn, began to experience significant problems. Flash wrote that the enemy’s command and control of troops had been complicated, and assault operations had been partially halted.
Moreover, ATEŞ recently confirmed a mass failure of Starlink among the Russians. Partisans reported that troop control had been paralyzed, and that in the Zaporizhzhia direction, the occupiers were shooting at each other.
