No power for 14-16 hours: outage schedules for December 9
9 December 02:22
Today, December 9, Ukraine will continue to face severe power cuts. During the day, 2 to 4 lines in all regions of the country will be simultaneously shut down. This was reported by Ukrenergo on its official Telegram channel, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The reason for the introduction of large-scale energy restrictions is the consequences of Russia’s eighth massive missile and drone attack since the beginning of the year, which has significantly damaged the energy infrastructure.
What awaits Ukrainians on Tuesday, December 9
According to Ukrenergo:
- hourly power outages for the population will continue from 00:00 to 23:59;
- the scope of restrictions will be from 2 to 4 queues at a time;
- during the same period, power limitation schedules for industrial consumers will be in effect;
- during the day, the volume and time of outages may vary depending on the state of the power system.
Power engineers emphasize that operational updates should be sought on the official pages of local regional power distribution companies.
Why severe restrictions remain in place
Ukraine has already experienced eight massive attacks on the power system since the beginning of the year. Each of them caused new damage to the grids and generating facilities.
On December 8, Ukrenergo CEO Vitaliy Zaichenko said:
- “The situation in the power system remains difficult but under control;
- power engineers are working around the clock to return power to the system;
- it is impossible to reduce the volume of outages in the short term.
What this means for consumers
For the population:
- longer or more frequent power outages should be expected on Tuesday;
- schedules are subject to change – you should periodically check for updates;
- it is recommended to plan the use of equipment, charging devices and surfing the Internet with the outages in mind.
For business and industry:
- power restrictions will be in place, which may affect production processes;
- companies should continue to adapt to operating in an unstable power supply environment.
Outlook: when improvements are possible
Ukrenergo notes that a return to more stable schedules is possible only after
- restoration of damaged facilities,
- increase in available generation,
- improvement of the situation in the grids and reduction of the risks of new attacks.
In the meantime, the energy situation remains vulnerable, and therefore the blackouts will continue in an intensified mode.
