Starting in September 2025, Ukraine will introduce free meals for students in grades 5-11 in the frontline areas.

This was announced by the Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

He recalled that in 2024 the government launched a free meals program for children in grades 1-4.

“We are moving on to the second stage – meals for grades 5-11 in the frontline areas. Children studying full-time from grades 1 to 11 will receive free meals there,” said Lisovyi.

About UAH 800 million will be allocated from the state budget to local budgets to finance the program. The funds will be used to provide free meals to primary school students across the country and to students in grades 5-11 in the frontline regions.

If meals are not organized, parents will be able to contact the school management, regional military administrations, education departments or the Ministry of Education.

Earlier, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Viktor Mykyta said that in the first half of 2025, 400,000 primary schoolchildren in various regions were provided with free hot meals thanks to a government subvention.
