How the rating is formed
The Henley & Partners Passport Index analyzes the visa regulations of 227 countries and territories of the world on a quarterly basis, ranking them by the number of visa-free countries. The rating has been compiled based on data from the travel information database for over 10 years.
A country’s position in the ranking depends on the number of countries to which its citizens can enter without prior visa application (no visa at all or with a visa on arrival). All of these countries have biometric passports.
The Henley Passport Index is the original, authoritative ranking of all passports in the world by the number of destinations their holders can reach without a visa. The index is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the largest and most accurate travel information database, and has been refined by the Henley & Partners research team.
