A train accident occurred near Korosten: how flights are running after the incident

On Monday at dawn, December 22, a railroad accident involving a freight and a passenger train occurred near the town of Korosten. The incident led to significant delays in train traffic on one of the key routes of Ukraine’s railroad network. The incident was reported by Ukrzaliznytsia, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

What happened near Korosten

According to preliminary information, a freight train was the first to derail. Due to the so-called oversize on the adjacent track, the drivers of the passenger train No. 45/46 Kharkiv-Uzhhorod were forced to apply emergency braking. As a result, the locomotive of the passenger train derailed.

The cause of the accident is currently being investigated by the relevant authorities.

Are there any victims?

No one was killed among the passengers

One person was cut by glass and was treated at the scene

The crew of the freight train was injured: the driver and his assistant were hospitalized

How the accident affected train traffic

Due to the incident, train traffic on this section is temporarily hampered. Expected delays are 3 hours or more.

Train No. 45/46 Kharkiv – Uzhhorod:

  • diverted to the neighboring station;
  • runs on a detour route with significant delays.

Some trains are rerouted through Shepetivka, Koziatyn, and Fastiv.

What trains run through Fastiv

Instead of Korosten, the following trains are temporarily running through Fastiv:

  • №1/123 Kharkiv – Ivano-Frankivsk, Vorokhta
  • 44/50 Ivano-Frankivsk – Cherkasy
  • no. 92 Lviv – Kyiv
  • no. 30 Uzhhorod – Kyiv
  • no. 8/150 Chernivtsi – Kyiv
  • no. 52 Przemyśl – Kyiv
  • 68/20 Warsaw, Kholm – Kyiv
  • 108 Solotvyno – Kyiv

The train #98 Kovel – Kyiv will be exceptionally passed through Zhytomyr, which will reduce the delay time.

Alternative transfers for passengers

A suburban shuttle to Korosten and back is organized at Shepetivka station to provide passenger transfers.

What’s next

Ukrzaliznytsia assures that repair crews are already working to restore traffic on the damaged section as soon as possible. They are also taking measures to speed up trains that are forced to run detours.

Passengers are advised to follow the updates and check the current train departure times before traveling.
