Belarus hands over its opposition to Ukraine

On Saturday, December 13, 114 civilians, including Ukrainians and Belarusian politicians, were returned to Ukraine from Belarus.

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

Among the released Ukrainians, the youngest is 25 years old, and his wife had already been returned during a previous operation. All the Ukrainians were detained in Belarus and accused of collaborating with Ukrainian special services.

On the Ukrainian side, the operation was led directly by the head of the GUR and the head of the Coordination Headquarters, Kyrylo Budanov.

Belarusian citizens serving sentences for political reasons, including well-known political and public figures, were also transferred to Ukraine: Maria Aleksandrova, Viktor Babariko and journalist Marina Zolotova.

After receiving medical care, they will be transported to Poland and Lithuania, if desired.

“This operation is an example of successful joint work between Ukraine and the United States,” the Coordination Center noted.

The Coordination Center continues to work on the return of other citizens, and the released ones will receive all necessary medical care.

“We express our gratitude to the United States and President Donald Trump for the fruitful work on the return of our citizens,” the headquarters added.

Previous operations to return Ukrainian citizens from Belarus and Russia have shown the effectiveness of diplomatic cooperation between Kyiv and Washington. The successful release of Ukrainians and political figures emphasizes the importance of international pressure and coordination to protect the rights of citizens and support political freedoms.

As a reminder, self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has announced an amnesty for 123 political prisoners. Among those released are oppositionists Viktar Babaryko and Maria Kolesnikava.
