Business does not give up: how Ivano-Frankivsk region became one of the “magnets” of investment
9 October 19:58
During the business discussion “Bukovel as an investment magnet: has the last train left the station?” organized by "Komersant Ukrainian", Anna-Maria Padlevska, manager of the YouControl analytical system, presented updated data on the development of entrepreneurship in Ukraine in 2021-2025.
According to the expert, the map of the regional distribution of business entities shows that Ukrainian business continues to open and develop even in the extremely difficult conditions of war.
We are talking about newly established companies and individual entrepreneurs.
YouControl’s analytics show that the number of newly opened companies fell to 6,760 in the first quarter of 2022, but a gradual recovery began in the second half of the year.
Despite the blackouts, despite the intensified shelling, we see that business continues to grow. We saw a peak in 2023, in 2024 the dynamics of 2023 continued, and now, as of 2025, we can basically predict the same number of newly established companies in the third and fourth quarters,” Padlevska commented.
Fewer closures, more sustainability
Interestingly, according to YouControl, more companies were closed in the pre-war period than after the start of the full-scale invasion.
This indicates that businesses are adapting to the new reality and are ready to work even under constant risk.
In fact, we can see that more companies were closed in the pre-war period than after the start of the full-scale invasion. This is evidence of the indomitable spirit of Ukrainians and the fact that business continues to grow,” summarized Anna-Maria Padliwska.
Ivano-Frankivsk region is in the top 5 by the number of individual entrepreneurs in the construction sector
One of the most interesting results of the study was activity in the construction sector. Ivano-Frankivsk region is among the five leaders in Ukraine in terms of the number of registered sole proprietors operating in the construction industry.
Why did we consider sole proprietorships? Well, of course, in our research, we look at different areas of activity, but the construction sector, in particular, is interesting to us because it is a factor in Ukraine’s development. Investing in the construction sector, in particular, is important in the reconstruction process,” said the manager of the YouControl analytical system.
According to her, individual entrepreneurs often cover local needs – small hotels, apartments, repair projects, so their dynamics is an important marker of real economic activity, especially in the frontline and western regions.
Foreign companies are not leaving Ukraine
Despite the full-scale war, foreign businesses continue to invest in the Ukrainian economy. Between 2022 and August 2025, dozens of new companies with foreign capital were registered in Ukraine.
The most active investor countries remain:
- Turkey is the undisputed leader in the number of new projects;
- The United States, Poland, and Germany, which together with Turkey form the top five key partners.
Ivano-Frankivsk region has a significant share of these investments, particularly in construction and tourism infrastructure.
Data to support the recovery
YouControl analysts emphasize that all data is taken from the Unified State Register, so it reflects real processes in the market. Business activity, which has been growing for the third year in a row, shows that Ukraine remains attractive to domestic and foreign investors, even despite the war.
