McDonald’s in Ukraine announced significant investments in the development of the chain in 2024, allocating UAH 1.8 billion for the construction and modernization of its restaurants. According to the company’s press service, the number of restaurant visitors increased by 16% year-on-year and reached 103 million customers. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Forbes.ua.
The company is gradually approaching the pre-crisis figures of 2021, when 125 million customers visited the chain. In addition to investments in development, McDonald’s has paid more than UAH 2.6 billion in taxes to the state budget of Ukraine. The chain currently employs almost 10,000 people, which is also close to the level of 2021.
Today, the McDonald’s network in Ukraine has 109 operating restaurants in 36 locations, while 15 restaurants remain closed for security reasons.
According to McDonald’s estimates, the Ukrainian market has the potential to expand the chain to 500 restaurants. In 2025, the company plans to open nine new restaurants and continue to modernize existing ones. Given the security situation, the central and western regions of Ukraine remain a priority for development.
Other plans for 2025 include the return of breakfast to all restaurants and the introduction of a mobile ordering and payment service (MOP), which will allow customers to order and pay for meals directly from their smartphones.
In 2024, the company also focused on environmental initiatives by eliminating plastic cutlery, plastic straws, rubber gloves in the production area, paper tray liners, and reducing the use of glass lids. These measures reduced annual plastic consumption by 131 tons, rubber consumption by 70 tons and paper consumption by 100 tons.
Meanwhile, the global McDonald’s experienced the biggest crisis in the last 4 years last fall.
