Blue Origin announces new date for launching satellites to Mars

13 November 15:17

The next attempt to launch Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket with two satellites designed to measure space weather on Mars is scheduled for this week, the company said, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Earlier, there were a number of delays due to cloud cover and a geomagnetic storm.

The new 90-minute launch window at the US Space Force base at Cape Canaveral in Florida has been set for Thursday and will open a few minutes before 23:00 Kyiv time, according to a post on the website of Jeff Bezos’ space company.

The new launch time coincides with the forecast of the US Space Weather Prediction Center, which indicates a reduced risk to the spacecraft and satellites from increased solar activity on Thursday.

Earlier, the launch of the two-stage New Glenn heavy rocket, which is as tall as a 32-story building, was scheduled for Sunday but was canceled due to heavy cloud cover. The mission was then rescheduled for Wednesday, but Blue Origin canceled the launch again due to a warning of a severe geomagnetic storm.

The launch will be an important event for Blue Origin: it is its first major science mission for a customer and the company’s first launch since the January debut of New Glenn.
