The Security Service of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigation have collected evidence of the criminal activities of Serhiy Medvedchuk and Bohdan Kozak, brothers of former MPs Viktor Medvedchuk and Taras Kozak, who are suspected of treason. This was reported by the SBU press service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

Currently, all four are hiding outside Ukraine and are carrying out subversive activities in favour of Russia.

The investigation has established that Sergei Medvedchuk and Bohdan Kozak were involved in financial fraud to the detriment of Ukraine in 2017-2023. It is about millions of hryvnias deliberately transferred “into the shadow”, which resulted in the state budget not receiving more than UAH 75 million in taxes. According to intelligence, these funds were used to finance Russia’s war against Ukraine.

To implement the fraud, the defendants involved a Lviv-based construction materials company, which they managed as beneficial owners. On their instructions, the company’s top management did not account for some of the products and illegally sold them to third parties.

In this way, the participants in the scheme evaded paying taxes on the products sold. To do this, the company’s director and accountant entered false information into the financial statements.

Based on the evidence collected, Sergiy Medvedchuk and Bohdan Kozak were served suspicion notices in absentia under Part 3 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (tax evasion, duties (mandatory payments)).

The actions of their accomplices, the director and accountant of the controlled company, who are in Ukraine, are additionally qualified under Part 2 of Art. 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (forgery).

The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice. The offenders face imprisonment.

It should be noted that Viktor Medvedchuk and Taras Kozak were notified of being suspected of treason back in 2021. In January 2023, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy deprived them of Ukrainian citizenship.

Medvedchuk’s arrest

Medvedchuk himself was arrested on 12 April 2022 as a result of a special SBU operation. He is a defendant in several criminal cases of high treason and economic crimes.

on 21 September, Viktor Medvedchuk was exchanged for Ukrainian soldiers held by Russia. As a result, 215 Ukrainian defenders were returned from captivity.
