Booking is still on hold: the government explained the reasons

Since mid-October, mass reservations have not been carried out, and the government and military-civilian administrations have been auditing companies with critical status and the right to reserve employees from mobilization. Yulia Svyrydenko, First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine , told Forbes Ukraine why the booking process was stopped.

She said that the number of people subject to mobilization has never exceeded 950,000 during the war, and explained that the need to stop the reservation process was not due to the number of reservations, but to their abnormally rapid growth.

“Starting in July, we saw an abnormally rapid increase in the number of bookings and companies that received the status of critical enterprises,” said Svyrydenko.

According to her, as cited by UP, there were hundreds of thousands of bookings that exceeded the figures for previous months and were not justified by objective economic factors. Therefore, the Ministry of Defense initiated an audit to check what this dynamic was about. This is to eliminate doubts, particularly among the military, and to make sure that this does not threaten defense capabilities.

The Minister of Economy of Ukraine reminded that the audit is being conducted by commissions under civil-military administrations and ministries, including the Ministry of Defense. The audit should be completed by November 15

Yulia Svyrydenko believes that it is incorrect to give new bookings while the audit of companies is ongoing.

However, it is worth recalling that on October 26, the Government approved a partial resumption of reservations for persons liable for military service, giving this opportunity to those who received the status of reservations before May 31, 2024.
