Diamond League: Yaroslava Maguchichykh will fight for a fourth consecutive victory in the finals

Today in Zurich, Switzerland, the finals of the Diamond League, the most prestigious commercial athletics competition, will begin. Ukrainians in this final are most interested in the high jump competition, as Ukrainian Olympic champion and world record holder Yaroslava Maguchikh will compete there for the victory in the season, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Maguchychikh’s path to the final
The Ukrainian record holder is the reigning winner of the Diamond League’s top trophy. Overall, she has won the final tournament of the series three times in a row – all the last three final competitions ended with the triumph of our athlete.
However, this season the Ukrainian does not look like such an unquestionable favorite as last year. Firstly, at the last stage in Lausanne Yaroslava did not show any result at all due to problems with her leg – she competed with an injury. Secondly, during the year she was seriously challenged by Belgian Nicola Olislagers, who has already beaten the Ukrainian record holder four times this season in direct confrontations.
In today’s final Maguchykh will have to solve two tasks at once. On the one hand – to try to reverse the negative statistics of head-to-head meetings with Olislagers. On the other – to get a fourth consecutive diamond, which will allow her to repeat the achievement of Russian Maria Lasitskene, who dominated the finals of the series from 2017 to 2021.

Ukrainians will be cheering not only for Maguchykh in the finals, as another Ukrainian athlete, Yulia Levchenko, will be among the six finalists.
Yulia is ranked 10th in the world ranking and has the fourth result of the season among all finalists, so she is not among the favorites of the final competition. However, Levchenko’s personal record is 2.02 meters, and in the current season this is the highest among all the athletes who will participate in the finals (it was set by Yaroslava Maguchikh). Therefore, our jumper has a very good chance to win.
