British Foreign Secretary David Lammy is convening a meeting with his counterparts from France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Poland and representatives of the European Union to discuss further support for Ukraine and strengthening regional defense cooperation, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing Reuters.

The event will take place on the eve of Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s summit with EU leaders scheduled for May 19.

According to Reuters, citing Lammey’s statement, the current situation in Europe is a “unique moment for collective security” and poses an “existential threat” not only to Ukraine but to the whole of Europe.

The British Foreign Office also reported that Lammey plans to announce a new package of sanctions against those who support Russian aggression.

On May 10, Ukraine, along with its key partners France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Poland, offered Russia an unconditional 30-day ceasefire. In case of refusal, Ukraine’s partners intend to increase pressure on Moscow through additional sanctions.
