British Prince Andrew said on Friday, October 17, that he would give up his title of Duke of York after years of criticism over his behavior and ties to the late American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Reuters.
The reputation of Andrew, the younger brother of King Charles and the second son of the late Queen Elizabeth, has taken a hit in recent years, in part because of his ties to Epstein.
In a statement, Andrew said that the “constant accusations against me” were distracting him from his work as King Charles’s older brother and the wider work of the British royal family.
“I have decided, as always, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to retire from public life,” Andrew said.
“With His Majesty’s approval, we believe I should take one more step. I will therefore no longer use the title or the honors that have been bestowed upon me. As I have said before, I strongly deny the allegations against me,” he added.
His decision to give up his titles was made after discussions with senior members of the royal family. According to a royal source, Reuters reported that the king was satisfied with the outcome.
