The war in Ukraine may well end in 2025. This was stated by Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, during the YES Special Meeting until February 24 organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Prospects for ending the war in 2025

Budanov expressed confidence that the war could end in 2025. He noted that Russia needs a respite and a ceasefire due to a lack of forces and significant financial costs of fighting. According to him, these factors may push the Russian leadership to find ways to end the conflict.

“Russia realizes that it is unrealistic to achieve its strategic goal quickly, so it needs a pause to recuperate and work on its mistakes,” Budanov said.

However, the head of the GUR emphasized that the end of the war is impossible unilaterally. It requires all parties to be ready and agree on a realistic action plan. He noted that the exact date of the end of the war depends on the readiness and consent of all parties to the conflict.

North Korea’s role in supporting Russia

Budanov also said that Russia receives significant support from North Korea. According to him, North Korea meets about 50% of Russia’s ammunition needs. In addition, large-scale deliveries of North Korean weapons have begun, including 170-mm howitzers and 240-mm multiple launch rocket systems. Budanov noted that out of the 12,000 North Korean mercenaries who arrived in Russia, about 4,000 have already been withdrawn, but new reinforcements are expected to arrive.

Attitude to rumors about the “end date of the war”

In response to rumors circulating online about an allegedly certain date for the end of the war, Budanov said that there is no such date. He emphasized that the end of the conflict depends on the readiness of all parties to negotiate and reach an agreed action plan. Budanov noted that any speculation about a specific date is speculation and does not reflect the real state of affairs.
